Millionaire builds 99 homes to reduce homelessness in his town

Marcel LeBrun, a compassionate millionaire from eastern Canada, has captured the hearts of many with his extraordinary endeavor to tackle homelessness. LeBrun, who sold his company for a significant sum, dedicated $4 million of his fortune towards this noble cause.

In the town of Fredericton, located in New Brunswick, CBC reports that approximately 1,800 individuals experienced homelessness at least once in 2022. This alarming statistic prompted LeBrun to invest his substantial funds in establishing what he calls the ’12 Neighbours’ gated community. This community aims to provide 99 tiny homes for individuals seeking to rebuild their lives.

These tiny homes, although not spacious, play a pivotal role in eliminating homelessness in Fredericton. Equipped with a kitchen, a cozy sleeping area, a bathroom, and even some front decking and solar panels, these homes provide the fundamental necessities for individuals to feel secure, warm, and protected.

Moreover, the government recognized the significance of the 12 Neighbours initiative. As a result, after the construction of approximately 70 tiny homes, the community received an additional $12 million in government grants, helping them to exceed their goals. When speaking to CBC, LeBrun passionately explained his motivation behind this outstanding effort:

“I want to make a lasting impact on the lives of those who are experiencing homelessness. Everyone deserves a safe and stable place to call home.”
