Matt has been praised online

Sometimes, a small act of kindness can brighten someone’s entire day. This was the case for one mum who wanted to express her heartfelt appreciation to an Asda store employee. His simple gesture made a world of difference to her five-year-old son, who lives with autism.

The mum and her son were shopping at the Golborne branch of Asda in Wigan, Greater Manchester when they encountered Matt, a shopping assistant. According to the Manchester Evening News, Matt’s friendly attitude and willingness to go above and beyond showed the little boy “the best respect.”

In an emotional letter addressed to the store, the mum wrote, “Matt let my son high five him multiple times (we had cleaned our hands beforehand). He even told some of the other staff that my son likes high fives, and they gave him some too. It doesn’t sound like much, but it really made my son’s experience a better one.”

Shopping is often a challenge for the young boy due to his autism. However, his interaction with Matt made a significant difference in his overall experience.

“We had tried to go into another shop before Asda, but he couldn’t handle the sensory overload,” the mum continued. “Having Matt and his friendly attitude made Asda a better experience. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Michelle, the customer section manager, shared the heartwarming letter online, adding that Matt is a true gentleman with a heart of gold. “He made this child’s day and his mum’s shopping experience 100 percent better. Thank you!”
