Netflix viewers are calling for the arrest of a man featured in the streaming platform’s latest documentary, The Man With 1000 Kids. This three-part docu-series, which premiered on Netflix on July 3, follows the astonishing story of Jonathan Jacob Meijer, a prolific sperm donor who has fathered over 500 children with multiple women.

The controversial documentary has caused a stir on social media, with viewers expressing shock and calling for Meijer’s imprisonment. One user wrote, “The Netflix doc The Man with 1000 Kids is nuts. That dude needs to be locked up.” Another user shared their disgust, saying, “Watching the Man with 1000 Kids on Netflix… I’m flabbergasted! How are they not locked up! And if you watched it, you know why I said they! I’m so disgusted and sad for those kids!”

The documentary features interviews with some of the women who connected with Meijer, often outside the professional regulations surrounding sperm donations. One woman, Vanessa from the Netherlands, alleged that Meijer convinced her to have sex with him instead of undergoing artificial insemination. She shared her experience of connecting with him on a website, where they arranged for him to visit her house and donate his sperm into a cup. However, when he arrived, he convinced her to conceive naturally as it was the most effective method. They proceeded to have sex to conceive her child.

The documentary explores disturbing themes such as incest, inter-breeding, racism, and violence against women. Despite the serious allegations against him, Meijer has denied the rumors multiple times, asserting that the documentary is misleading and deceiving. In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Woman Hour, he clarified, “They [Netflix] deliberately called [the documentary] The Man With 1,000 Kids, when it should be ‘the sperm donor who helped families conceive with 550 children.’”

Meijer acknowledged that he should have set better boundaries for himself and recognized when he was reaching his limits. He admitted that at times, he got carried away with his role as a donor. Reflecting on his motivations, he explained, “I don’t think addiction is a good word for it, but if I was addicted to anything, it was to being valuable to people and having a great time with them.”

While Meijer’s intentions may have been rooted in helping others conceive, his actions have raised significant concerns. The documentary sheds light on the ethical and legal implications surrounding sperm donation and highlights the need for stricter regulations in this field.
