A heart-wrenching tragedy has struck a couple from Ohio, as they prepare to say goodbye to their vibrant four-year-old daughter, Maisie Schmidt. Just days after being diagnosed with a “common cold” by her pediatrician, Maisie’s condition rapidly deteriorated, leading to her passing away on March 26. Her parents, Christin Brigadier and Patric Schmidt, are now left to mourn the loss of their precious little girl.

When Maisie began experiencing sniffles and coughs in late March, her parents rushed her to the doctor. However, the medical professionals assured them that it was just a common cold and advised them to give Maisie plenty of fluids and rest. Trusting their expertise, her parents took her back home.

Unfortunately, Maisie’s health took a drastic turn for the worse on March 23. She became lethargic, and her concerned parents decided to take her to the emergency room. Little did they know that their world was about to shatter into pieces.

At the hospital, Maisie’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and she was placed on life support to give her a fighting chance against the human metapneumovirus (hMPV). This virus, similar to the common cold, usually causes mild symptoms and full recovery. However, it clung onto Maisie, refusing to let go.

Despite the doctors’ efforts, Maisie suffered a severe stroke, which led to brain surgery in an attempt to save her life. However, the damage was too extensive, and her parents had to make the heartbreaking decision to take her off life support. Maisie passed away on March 26, leaving her family devastated.

Maisie’s uncle, Michael Brigadier, shared an update on a GoFundMe page set up to support the family. He described Maisie as a caring, smart, fun, and loving girl who touched the lives of everyone she met. The community has rallied behind the family, raising more than $26,500 to help with funeral expenses.

We extend our deepest condolences to Maisie’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Let us take a moment to remember Maisie’s beautiful spirit and spread love in her memory.
