A Second Chance at Life

“Wheel of Fortune” host, Pat Sajak, recently opened up about his life-threatening experience and subsequent emergency surgery for a clogged intestine. In a heartfelt interview with “Good Morning America,” Sajak revealed that he genuinely believed he might not make it before the surgery.

It all began when Sajak started experiencing excruciating agony during a daily stroll with his daughter in November. Within hours, he found himself on the brink of surgery, doubled over in pain. Sajak described the experience, saying, “I was lying on the bed in the fetal position, and no medication could ease the discomfort.”

However, everything changed for Sajak after the administration of a particular medication by his doctors. Suddenly, the pain faded away, and he was surrounded by a beautiful array of colors. “I could hear my daughter and wife talking in the background,” he recalled, “but they seemed miles away. It felt like I was crossing into a different realm.”

Overcoming the Fear of Death

In that moment, Sajak’s thoughts turned to his loved ones. He worried about the aftermath they would have to face, but thankfully, his fears were unfounded. “It turns out I was only stoned,” he laughed, relieved to have come out of the surgery alive. The procedure was a resounding success, and doctors found no underlying issues, assuring him that his way of life need not change.

Since then, Sajak has been feeling fantastic. He’s even back to working on the show, hosting in the studio with the same enthusiasm as always. With a hint of his signature humor, Sajak declared, “Nothing popped even after the wheel was spun. Therefore, in my opinion, everything is OK.”

A Supportive Co-host and A Surprise Announcement

During Sajak’s recovery, his long-time co-host, Vanna White, stepped in to fill his shoes. In the interview, Sajak light-heartedly shared his concern that Vanna might replace him as the show’s main host. “I learned she enjoys hosting,” he joked, “and I’m a little nervous.”

While fans pondered who would succeed Sajak as the next host, it was recently revealed that Ryan Seacrest will be taking on the role. In a statement, Seacrest expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and his admiration for Sajak’s immense contribution to the show. He humbly acknowledged, “I’m truly humbled to be following in the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak.”

For 40 years, Sajak and Vanna have brought joy and laughter into our homes every night, creating a familiar and comforting atmosphere. Seacrest looks forward to learning from Sajak and continuing the remarkable legacy of “Wheel of Fortune.”
