Last weekend, during his grandfather’s coronation, Prince George took on a significant and honorable role as the Page of Honour at Westminster Abbey. The event was filled with centuries-old royal traditions, dictating everything from what to eat to how to stand and behave in specific situations. Surprisingly, the topic of dress code became a hot topic at the coronation.

According to the Daily Mail, Prince George had a say in what he wore to King Charles’ wedding. The 9-year-old approached his grandfather before the coronation and convinced him to make alterations to his attire. The reason behind this decision is truly quite sad…

The crowning of King Charles will be remembered fondly by monarchists, as thousands of people lined the streets of London to cheer on the royals. The event ran smoothly, and Prince George played his role as the Page of Honour with great pride.

As a Page of Honour, Prince George wore historically inspired attire. However, before donning his outfit, he approached his grandfather, King Charles, to express his intention of wearing something new.

According to the Daily Mail, young George hoped to make coronation history by persuading King Charles to modify the centuries-old attire usually worn by the Pages of Honour.

But why? It turns out that the future king was terrified of being bullied by his classmates at school. “George, one of four pages assisting the monarch, voiced his concerns about having to wear white knee breeches,” the Mail stated. The possibility of “ribaldry at school” made him hesitate to wear tights as well.

One might assume that royal traditions cannot be easily changed or altered. However, King Charles has been quite receptive to modernizing the monarchy over the years, not only in terms of traditions but also by reducing the number of working royals. So when Prince George voiced his concerns about the coronation attire, King Charles listened and approved his requests.
