In recent years, incidents of random violence have become all too common in our communities. While many factors contribute to this concerning trend, the current economic climate and the stress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have undoubtedly played a significant role. With individuals facing job losses and financial hardships, some have unfortunately turned to criminal activities as a way to survive. However, this still leaves us questioning why violence has become their preferred outlet for expressing their frustrations.

Group Of Young People Attack Elderly Man At The Park, Make One Huge Mistake

One particularly disturbing incident took place in Baltimore, Maryland, where a group of young people targeted a 64-year-old man in a random attack. Shockingly, the assailants recorded the abuse on their devices and live-streamed it on Facebook for their friends and followers to witness their heinous act against an elderly individual.

According to reports from the Baltimore Sun, the attack occurred while the victim was peacefully reading a book on a park bench at Wyman Park Dell. With the Johns Hopkins University and the Baltimore Museum of Art nearby, it was supposed to be a serene setting. However, the peace was shattered when the group approached the man under the pretense of seeking assistance with money exchange. Suddenly, one of them aimed a gun at the old man’s head, demanding that he hand over all his belongings.

The robbery quickly escalated into a brutal assault, with one suspect stabbing the victim in the lower back while another used mace to attack him. All the while, the attackers streamed the horrifying ordeal on Facebook’s live-stream service, amplifying their malicious act for the world to see.

In the end, the thieves stole $60 in cash, the victim’s iPhone, and even his North Face backpack, likely due to its brand value. Fortunately, the police were able to apprehend the attackers thanks to the live stream on Facebook. Initially capturing 18-year-old Zannay Laws, who confessed her involvement in the attack, the authorities were able to track down additional suspects and bring them to justice.

City Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke expressed her outrage, stating, “Here’s a man sitting on a bench, reading a book in the park. To think that it was actually planned and recorded to be publicized is just beyond understanding. It’s outrageous.” She further added, “What could possibly motivate a person to participate in such a disturbing assault and want others to witness it? It’s sickening.”

Both Laws and suspect Dakei Perry, both 18 years old, have been charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault, armed robbery, theft, and other related offenses. If convicted, they will likely face severe consequences.

Disturbingly, this group is also believed to be responsible for other robberies in the Baltimore area, compounding the seriousness of their crimes.

We must remain vigilant and work together as a community to prevent such acts of violence, ensuring the safety and well-being of every member, regardless of their age. By promoting kindness, understanding, and empathy, we can make a difference and restore peace to our neighborhoods.
