SNL Recap: Ryan Gosling Reworks Taylor Swift Song About Barbie and Ken

Ryan Gosling, everyone’s favorite Ken, is back and ready to leave his toy box days behind. In his recent Saturday Night Live monologue, Gosling, 43, shared some heartfelt thoughts about his iconic role as Ken in the movie “Barbie.” While he didn’t want to make any jokes about Ken, he couldn’t help but express his feelings about the character that he played for so long.

Gosling sat down at a grand piano and started playing a Ken-themed rendition of Taylor Swift’s hit song “All Too Well.” With tweaked lyrics that fit the Barbie storyline, Gosling sang about his time as Ken, the toy that captured the hearts of many. He reflected on his adventures in Venice Beach, the pink house where he left his rollerblades, and the iconic fur coat he still has. Gosling poured his heart out with lines like, “I was just Ken and now I’m just Ryan.”

But his musical moment was soon interrupted by his co-star Emily Blunt, who questioned his focus on Barbie instead of promoting their upcoming action film “The Fall Guy.” Blunt playfully reminded Gosling about the epic stunts they had planned for their monologue, but Gosling argued that his song wasn’t totally unrelated to their movie. He confessed that he listened to Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well” while filming “The Fall Guy,” and it became a source of comfort during his “breakup” with Ken.

Blunt eventually joined in, bidding farewell to her own character in the Oscar-winning film “Oppenheimer.” The two actors sang together, bringing an end to any lingering rivalry between Barbie and Oppenheimer. They urged the audience to watch “The Fall Guy” and said their goodbyes to their beloved characters.

Ryan Gosling’s heartfelt tribute to Ken on SNL was not the only highlight of the episode. Kate McKinnon, a former SNL cast member and Gosling’s Barbie co-star, made a surprise appearance in the cold open. College basketball star Caitlin Clark also joined the show to discuss the WNBA Draft on “Weekend Update.” The episode’s musical guest, Chris Stapleton, performed alongside Gosling and the rest of the SNL cast in a country-inspired sketch.
