It’s almost surreal to think that Princess Diana would be celebrating her 63rd birthday this year. The memory of her charm and grace remains evergreen not just with us, but particularly among her royal family.

Sarah Ferguson, or Fergie as many affectionately know her, took a moment on July 1 to pen a touching note to Diana. Accompanying her message was a nostalgic photo depicting the two of them from the 1990 Battle of Britain Anniversary Parade.

In the image, both women stand side by side on Buckingham Palace’s balcony, observing a flyover with infectious smiles. Fergie’s note resonates with timeless friendship and cherished memories.

“Happy birthday to my dear friend, Diana,” Sarah wrote. “You were a pillar of light and love. And what a legacy you have left behind. I will forever remember our laughter and the kindred, kind spirit I found in you.”

“I am sure you are watching over us always. Rest in peace, my friend.”

Diana and Sarah shared a bond that began in their teenage years. Childhood friends turned confidantes as they navigated royal life together.

Sarah’s marriage to Prince Andrew in 1986 further cemented this bond, turning their friendship into sisterhood. Interestingly, the same year Diana and Charles’s marriage ended, Sarah and Andrew also filed for divorce.

Recalling a playful moment, Sarah shared in an interview: “I said to her, ‘Oh, Andrew’s really good-looking.’ And she said, ‘Duh, Fergs!’”

The grandeur of the royal family brought its own pressures. Sarah candidly spoke about the mental health challenges she and Diana faced, often finding solace in each other’s company.

Sarah recalls Diana’s advice fondly: “She said, ‘Fergie, remember one thing: When you’re at the top of the pedestal, it’s so easy to fall off. And you’re at the bottom. You just climb up. We were positioned as saint and sinner. And the most important thing was to remain robust together, and we did, no matter what anyone wrote.”
