A woman recently went through exactly that when she saved up for months and bought her fiancé a PS5, a gift he had always wanted. However, her own gift turned out to be a major disappointment.
She posted her story on Reddit, questioning whether she was in the wrong for feeling upset. Her fiancé, a pediatrician, had recently come into a better financial situation and had gifted his parents his old apartment and his brother his old Mercedes, after spending money on customization. On the other hand, he hadn’t bothered to ask her what she wanted for Christmas.
On Christmas day, when the family gathered to exchange gifts, she received a pack of toothpicks from her fiancé. Confused and hurt, she asked him about it, only to be met with his insistence that it was her gift. His younger sister found the situation amusing and laughed quietly. She was filled with astonishment and felt like the awkward one in the room.
In the midst of this, her fiancé revealed that it was all just a prank, and his sister had come up with the idea. This revelation caused her to lose her temper and yell at him, feeling embarrassed and humiliated in front of his family. To make matters worse, his sister had recorded her reaction, intending to laugh about it later.
Feeling hurt and betrayed, the woman left to her mom’s house. Her fiancé called, claiming she overreacted and that he didn’t expect such a response from her. Furthermore, his mom scolded her for ruining the dinner and causing a scene. In contrast, her own mom believed that they were all in the wrong for playing such a hurtful prank on her.
The next day, her fiancé showed up with her “actual” gift and apologized, blaming it all on his sister’s idea. However, she couldn’t bring herself to accept his apology. This type of behavior was not acceptable, and no one would be okay with it.
As a plant lover who enjoys gardening, her gift had something to do with her passion. She spends a lot of time growing plants in her backyard, and it brings her joy.
