An American woman named Reyna Hernandez went to her boyfriend’s home in Mexico with the intention of ending their relationship once and for all. Tragically, he allegedly murdered her and transported her body all the way from Washington State to a cemetery in Mexicali, Mexico. Reyna, a 54-year-old hair salon owner from Renton, Wash., had recently moved in with her new boyfriend, whom she had been dating for five months.

Her boyfriend, Louie Hernandez, now facing charges of first-degree murder, reportedly shot her in the head on February 26. According to investigators, Louie then placed her body in her vehicle and drove to Mexico. There, he left her body tied to a tree in the cemetery. The Renton Police Department had initially classified the killing as a domestic violence case.

The charging documents released on May 1 revealed that Reyna’s current boyfriend had claimed that Louie had a history of abusing Reyna. He allegedly threatened to kill her and even “cut off her head” on multiple occasions.

Security footage from the property captured the moments leading up to and following Reyna’s killing. It showed Louie loading a large object wrapped in light-colored material, possibly a blanket or tarp, onto her vehicle in the garage. Investigators later discovered that the color, size, and overall description of the blanket matched the one Reyna was found wrapped in. They also found evidence indicating that she had been dragged by the vehicle, with one of her ankles tied to a tree.

Louie is currently in custody in Mexico while U.S. authorities work on extraditing him.
