When we think of heroes, we often think of firefighters or police officers. They have the opportunity to be heroes more frequently than others due to the nature of their jobs. But anyone can be a hero in the right circumstances.

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes, we may not even recognize someone as a hero until we see them in action.

In Ontario County, New York, the community experienced the stress and worry of a missing child. A 2-year-old girl had disappeared from her home, and everyone was on high alert. Among those who joined the search efforts was State Trooper Brian Hotchkiss.

Officer Hotchkiss, on his way home from duty that day, heard the call for help over the radio. Without hesitation, he decided to get involved and contribute to the rescue mission.

Initially, they began knocking on doors, hoping to gather any information about the whereabouts of the little girl. Perhaps she had wandered off to a neighbor’s house. But as the day turned into night, they realized they needed a different approach.

Officer Hotchkiss became increasingly concerned about the little girl, fearing she might be out in the cold, alone, and frightened. The proximity of a nearby mountain and woods added to his concern.

Determined to find a better vantage point, he climbed to the top of the mountain. By doing so, he hoped to gain a clearer view of the area and increase his chances of spotting the missing child.

As he scanned the surroundings, his eyes fell upon a pink dot amidst the trees. He remembered that the little girl was wearing a pink shirt. Without delay, he hurried towards that direction.
