Finding the right words can sometimes be tricky, especially when it comes to being polite. However, there are some people who prefer a more direct approach. This amusing anecdote illustrates just that!

The scene is set in a classroom, where a teacher is trying to teach her third-grade students about good manners. She poses a question to the class, asking, “Michael, if you were on a date having dinner with a nice young lady, how would you tell her that you have to go to the bathroom?”

To the teacher’s surprise, Michael bluntly responds, “Just a minute, I have to go pee.” Clearly, this answer doesn’t align with the teacher’s expectations of politeness. Undeterred, the teacher turns to another student, Sherman, and asks him the same question.

Sherman, demonstrating some improvement in manners, replies, “I am sorry, but I really need to go to the bathroom. I’ll be right back.” While a step in the right direction, mentioning the word “bathroom” at the dinner table isn’t quite ideal.

Finally, the teacher turns to little Johnny, hoping for a display of good manners. Johnny confidently says, “I would say: Darling, may I please be excused for a moment? I have to shake hands with a very dear friend of mine, who I hope to introduce you to after dinner.”

The unexpected brilliance of Johnny’s response causes the teacher to faint in disbelief! Clearly, Johnny’s creative and polite approach to excusing himself impressed the teacher beyond words. It’s safe to say that Johnny definitely deserves an A+ for his exceptional display of manners!
