In a freak accident, a teenager named Rayce Ogdahl had a terrifying encounter with his own phone charger that left him thinking he was going to die. The incident took place when Rayce’s necklace got electrified by an exposed prong of the plug.

Rayce’s mother, Danielle Davis, recalls the horrifying moment when she heard her son’s screams echoing through the hallway of their home in the US. Rushing to his aid, she discovered the scorch marks on his neck and an awful smell of burnt hair and skin.

Rayce was quickly rushed to the intensive care unit at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center’s burns unit in Oklahoma. He suffered second, third, and fourth-degree burns, which will leave lasting scars.

Reflecting on the incident, Danielle said, “The whole experience has made Rayce a lot more self-aware. It was very eye-opening. We’re just so grateful he’s okay. He could’ve easily died that night.”

Rayce himself remembers the terrifying moments leading up to the accident. He was in bed and leaned out to check if his phone was still charging. Unfortunately, his cross necklace made contact with the exposed plug prongs in an extension cord, completing an electric circuit around his neck. “He told me his whole body hurt, and he thought he was going to die,” his mother shared.

The incident serves as a harsh reminder to everyone about the potential dangers of using phones in bed and paying attention to cords. Rayce’s scars are a lasting testament to the importance of being cautious and not risking one’s safety for something as trivial as a text message or notification.

“We would recommend to anybody: don’t use extension cords at all,” Danielle added, stressing the need to prioritize safety in our daily lives.

Let Rayce’s harrowing experience be a wake-up call for us all. Stay safe, and remember – no message or notification is worth jeopardizing your well-being.
