Billy Chemirmir, A Serial Killer Accused Of Murdering More Than 20 Elderly Women, Was Just Killed In Prison

This 50-year-old, who thought it would be thrilling to murder 22 elderly women between 2016 and 2018 just to nab their jewelry, met his own brutal end in jail. Killed by his cellmate, nonetheless. Apparently, stealing sparkly trinkets doesn’t pave the way to a long, happy life.
Picture this: Chemirmir using his nifty healthcare knowledge to slip into the homes of unsuspecting elderly women in Texas. For a while, some deaths were pinned down as natural causes (go figure), but a resilient 91-year-old survivor eventually pointed the finger at Chemirmir. So, the man who arguably made a career out of preying on the elderly got a taste of his own medicine.
From Kenya To The United States
Born in 1972 on a farm in Kenya, Chemirmir’s life was seemingly idyllic—complete with 28 siblings! From being a caregiver for his centenarian father to moving to the United States in 2003, Chemirmir sold cars and worked as a caregiver. The dream, isn’t it? Well, dreams sometimes turn into nightmares.
In 2004, Billy tied the knot, but poof—two years later, he vanishes, leading to a divorce. Add a couple of DUI arrests in 2010 and 2011, and you’ve got a train wreck in the making. In 2012, things nosedived further when he started having violent tendencies, such as a drunken brawl where the poor girlfriend and an innocent loveseat faced his wrath. Now, who out there has issues with furniture?
Billy Chemirmir’s Life Of Crime
Fast-forward to 2016, Billy ramps things up a notch by going on a murder spree. His targets? Elderly women in senior independent living centers and private homes. Cleverly masked as a healthcare or maintenance worker, Chemirmir wormed his way into their apartments, only to smother many of them with pillows. Ah, the luxurious life of crime!
One of his victims, 79-year-old Diane Delahunty, was discovered dead days after a family lunch. Despite being in good health, her sudden demise stumped her family—until they noticed her rings had vanished. With soft pillows and sneaky thefts, Chemirmir was pulling off a despicable yet foolproof act until March 2018.
Surviving barely, 91-year-old Mary Bartel found her willpower and spilled Chemirmir’s beans to the police. Within a heartbeat, the police nabbed Chemirmir, sparkling cash and jewelry in hand. Then, they traced more jewelry he’d abandoned, leading them to 81-year-old Lu Thi Harris’s home, where they found her dead.
In all, Billy’s kill score reached 22. Convicted in 2022, Chemirmir fell back on his innocence claims. Oh Billy, sure!

Despite his relentless ‘I’m innocent’ chant, Chemirmir was locked away for life. But drama, oh sweet prison drama, had more in store. On September 19, 2023, Chemirmir came face to face with his mortality, courtesy of an equally charming convicted murderer cellmate.
Violence in Texas prisons was already on the rise, enough to place them on lockdown. So really, Chemirmir’s demise wasn’t exactly mind-boggling. For families of the victims, his impromptu exit is bittersweet. Shannon Dion put it eloquently — her mother, Doris Gleason, died in fear but knowing Chemirmir didn’t have a peaceful end brings a morsel of relief.
And so, this perplexing tale wraps up with a rather untimely yet fitting end. After all, if you dance with the devil, don’t expect roses. Chemirmir isn’t the first nor the last bad apple to meet a grim fate behind bars.
