If you see a man with one painted fingernail, here’s what it mean

A Chance Encounter That Changed Everything

Elliot Costello was on a journey through Cambodia when he met a young girl named Thea. This seemingly ordinary meeting turned out to have an extraordinary impact on Elliot’s life. Thea, with her nails painted bright and colorful, had experienced the horrors of sexual abuse. She asked Elliot to paint one of his nails while they talked, and he gladly accepted. Little did he know that this small gesture would transform his mission forever.

“As she painted one of my nails, I assured her I would always keep it that way to remember her, and by extension, her suffering,” Elliot said.

A Movement for Change

Inspired by Thea’s resilience and determination, Elliot took up the cause to put an end to the sexual abuse of minors. He created the #PolishedMan movement, urging men to paint one of their nails as a symbol of solidarity. This painted nail represents the one in five children who will experience sexual assault. By joining the movement, men commit to challenging violent behavior and language, both locally and globally.

Men as Agents of Reform

Elliot firmly believes that men have a significant role to play in creating a safer world for children. According to him, 96% of sexual violence against children is perpetrated by men. Therefore, it is only fitting that men take the lead in driving social reform and ending the abuse of vulnerable children.

Sparking Conversations and Inspiring Action

The painted nail serves as more than just a visual reminder of the problem at hand. It is a catalyst for discussions about the prevalence of child abuse. Through these conversations, new preventative strategies can be developed to protect children from harm. Additionally, Elliot aims to raise funds to support educational programs and resources for child survivors of abuse.
