Yohann, a remarkable three-legged dog, has overcome adversity to make a significant impact. Originally involved in greyhound racing, Yohann suffered a tendon injury at a young age. Sadly, this injury resulted in the amputation of one of his legs, ending his racing career. However, thanks to the love and compassion of his owner, Amanda Wells, from Midlothian, Scotland, Yohann found a new purpose.

Despite having only three legs, Yohann’s big heart and his healthy body allowed him to become a blood donor. He has donated blood 16 times to the Pet Blood Bank UK, saving the lives of up to 64 other dogs. Yohann and Amanda’s exceptional contributions were recognized on May 26 when they were awarded The Bramble Craddock Award. This prestigious award celebrates the extraordinary efforts of both individuals and dogs.

Nicole Osborne from Pet Blood Bank UK expressed her excitement about presenting the award to Yohann and Amanda, acknowledging their outstanding support for the charity. She described Yohann as a worthy recipient of the award, highlighting his crucial role as a donor dog. Pet Blood Bank is the sole organization in the UK that provides a lifesaving blood service for all dogs. Similar to the human blood service, dogs and their owners attend donation sessions across the country, ensuring a steady supply of blood that can save numerous lives.

It’s essential to note that every donation has the potential to help up to four other dogs. Given the increasing demand for blood products, there is a constant need for more dog donors. If you have a healthy, confident, and happy dog who is between one and eight years old and weighs over 25kg, they could become a lifesaver. In addition to Yohann, another canine hero, Patron, a bomb-sniffing dog, was recently honored with an award. This brave Jack Russell has successfully detected over 200 landmines in Ukraine. President Volodoymyr Zelensky recognized Patron’s dedication and named him a hero. Mr. Zelensky emphasized Patron’s role not only in neutralizing explosives but also in educating children about safety in mine-threatened areas.
