A recent billboard in Maryland has sparked controversy due to its negative portrayal of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Located in Huntington, Calvert County along Route 4 and Bowie Shop Road, the billboard features cartoon caricatures of the president and VP surrounded by piles of cartoon feces. The pro-Trump message displayed reads, “DON’T BLAME TRUMP! YOU ARE STUCK WITH THESE TWO (expletive) HEADS!!!”

While this sign has been commended by those who oppose Biden, many Maryland residents find it offensive and inappropriate. Jeanette Flaim, chair of the Calvert County Democratic Central Committee, has taken a stand against the billboard, seeking its removal. Flaim believes that the explicit imagery of the billboard is unsuitable for children who pass by it on their way to school or parents who have to explain it to their kids.

Despite the controversy, removing the billboard may not be as straightforward as Flaim hopes. Under the 2015 Reed v. Town of Gilbert Supreme Court Decision, the offensive message on the billboard might be protected as free speech. The county commissioners, including Buddy Hance, the president of the Board of County Commissioners, have stated that they cannot intervene as the language on the billboard is deemed legal.

Flaim, however, remains determined in her fight against the billboard. While she understands and respects the presence of a pro-Trump agenda in the area, she believes that the current signage goes too far and is not suitable for public display. Flaim urges the people responsible for the billboard to reconsider its content and replace it with something less offensive and controversial, emphasizing that she speaks not just for Democrats but for Republicans and Independents as well.

As the debate continues, the person behind the anti-Biden billboard has chosen to remain silent, declining requests for comment. This raises the question: are they avoiding public scrutiny or are they letting their sign speak for them?

The 2020 general election was marked by tension and division, and this explicit billboard serves as a reminder of the polarizing nature of politics. In his first one hundred days in office, President Biden managed to fulfill his campaign promise of vaccinating 100 million Americans against COVID-19, demonstrating his commitment to the well-being of the nation.

What are your thoughts on this vulgar billboard in Maryland? Do you believe it should be allowed to remain?
